Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime; pass Naomi the rod and it’s salmon sashimi all round! I had even packed ginger, wasabi and poke for an authentic floating feast, but my enthusiasm was no match for three focused fishermen. With six Coho by noon, we were averaging more than one an hour, which is a lot more than can be said for my vain fishing attempt in Sydney Harbour. Admittedly I was only responsible for reeling one of those bad boys in, but at ten pound it was no goldfish, in fact it was the largest of our catch. I guess that makes it City Slicker: 1 - Ocean Gypsy: 0.
Five hours later, and with four noses the colour of beetroot, we decided to call it a day and headed back to shore to collect our crab trap, which surprisingly was crawling with pinchy critters. We chucked them in the cooler, loaded the boat and headed back. By the time we reached Chez Seabrook I was just about ready to eat a salmon whole, but managed to suppress my pescetarian urges long enough for Lucan to remove its guts and bones - thankfully. With the obligatory salads prepped and dressed, we sat down to a bowl of sashimi that would have made even Nobu proud. I gotta give it to them, the Seabrooks are a dab hand on the water. Bravo boys.
