The beauty of Maine

The best way to describe Maine in November is to imagine what the world would look like if Pixar personified the Coco Cola Christmas advert and allowed us all to live there. Every tree is dressed in pearls, some fell from the sky as snow flakes, others were bought and plugged in. The wooden homes quite literally emit charm, as plumes of smoke rise from the chimneys and interlace in the moonlight. It’s even more beautiful during the day, when you can explore all the parks and lakes that speckle the land. We got well and truly lost around Moosehead Lake, where we had chosen to spend Thanksgiving. Luckily we found the perfect spot to cook our ham shank, and spent the rest of the afternoon tearing strips off and covering it in mustard.
Black Friday was a wonderful affair, spent as far away from sharp elbows and steel-toe boots as you can get. At one point we found ourselves at the top of a frozen waterfall in Acadia National Park, overlooking the bay and smiling at where our adventure had taken us. The day finished with a delicious lobster roll and the offer of a home-cooked breakfast from a friendly stranger. Maine is without doubt, my favourite state yet. The people are fabulous and have been very generous with their van-related complements - much to Mr Canada’s excitement.
May I also mention that as of this morning, Lucan redefined what it means to be fabulous when he transformed our home into a portable Christmas grotto. Our van is now adorned in fairy lights, contains two stockings, a mini-christmas tree, tinsel, a festive rug, a ’plush’ throw and a snowman mascot which we have attached to the roof rack. If this seems like a shameless declaration of love, then your powers of deduction are spot on.
