A horseshoe bend and a Grand Canyon

We had every intention of exploring Arizona properly, but with thousands of desert miles done, and Las Vegas beckoning we decided to abbreviate our itinerary. Of the two places we hit, my favourite was Horse Shoe Bend: a 270 degree curve in the Colorado River which is best seen from a few hundred metres up. We arrived just before sunset, leaving us enough time to capture a couple of frame, and bask in its glory before it was swallowed by the night. I can honestly say, this vista is worth a thousand of any that you might see at the Grand Canyon. It’s simply breath-taking.

That is not to say that the Grand Canyon wasn’t impressive, because of course it was. It was also interesting to learn that if that 277 mile fissure wasn't there, then neither would California. Well that's some ground breaking stuff right there!
